Now on to paper QUALITY. You do need to know this.

PAPER TYPES

* Plain bond paper

This paper will work fine for every day printing, stuff that’s not leaving the office or house. Don’t use it for your daughter’s wedding invitations, or to print your resume. The INK will spread more when it’s sprayed on and it won’t give as sharp of image. Set your printer on low resolution mode on this type of paper. High resolution is wasted on this paper. You’ll want to get it in 20-24 lb., the same thing that modern copiers use. The heavier stock will print a little better. The average price of plain bond paper is $5-8 a ream (500 sheets). You can buy this at Sam’s Wholesale Club for around $2.45 a ream, by the case (10 reams).

* Coated paper

Coated paper is better than plain bond paper, the INK doesn’t spread as much and gives a crisper look. Good for home and business. It cost between $10-20 for 200 sheets.

* Premium paper

Use this paper for those first class printing jobs, resumes, business proposals, etc. This paper works great with the new Hi Resolution (dpi) of today’s newest model INKJET printers.

* Glossy Photo paper

This is the paper to print photographs. For 600-720 dpi printers, this works much better than premium. And because the INK stays put, you’ll want this for the 1200-1400 dpi printer to show off the Hi-Resolution modes.

* Other

You can also get banner paper for printing signs and banners. This is another place you have it over most laser printers (besides initial cost and cost of operation), they can’t print continuous paper.

Vellum is a translucent paper that can be printed on by most INKJET printers. This is harder to find. Try a reproduction house that does blueprints. They stock it for engineers and architects.

Labels work fine in INKJET printers. They come in all types and sizes from address labels to name tags. Avery makes just about all of the different types.
